What ingredients does our aloe vera gel have?

INGREDIENTS:

"95.3% Aloe barbadensis leaf juice *, water, Xanthan Gum, Citric acid, Phytic acid, Benzoic Acid, potassium sorbate, sodium Benzoate."

How to interpret the INCI?

The abbreviation "INCI" means (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients). Now that we know what the name is, we need to know what it is.

It is the name of the ingredients used in cosmetics, so that we all understand what is in those precious tubs we buy.

These are some basic rules that most interest us:

1. All the names of the ingredients must be in Latin.

2. The ingredients must be listed according to their quantity in decreasing order. So, when you read a label of pure gel of aloe vera for example, the first ingredient that appears on the list is usually more than 90% and is found in greater quantity in the product. The second ingredient has less quantity and so on, until the last ingredient whose amount in the gel will be the smallest.

3. The asterisk determines that the product is of certified organic origin.

4. For cosmetic dyes, which are placed at the end of the INCI, the CI number (Colour Index) must be used in the ingredient labelling, followed by its corresponding number.

How to identify a pure quality aloe vera gel?

  1. THE ORIGIN OF THE ALOE

Aloe vera grown in the Canary Islands is of high quality. This is the reason why the slogan or the phrase "aloe vera of the Canary Islands" is used as an argument for sale. But the aloe has not always been cultivated in the Canary Islands. Look at the label, because if it is legal and it is well prepared it must indicate where the product was manufactured. If it does not you must be suspicious, sometimes it is in very small print so that we do not see it easily. On our label you can see Made in Fuerteventura in a clear way.

  1. SOME PRODUCTS ARE PREPARED WITH FRESH ALOE VERA PULP, while others are based on ALOE EXTRACT (aloe vera IN POWDER form)

A product can be made from fresh aloe vera with pulp or based on aloe powder. The aggressive processes to which the Aloe is subjected to turn it into powder destroys its properties. Dehydration uses high temperatures and pressure. These powders usually come from China, India or Mexico. Once at the destination point, they are usually mixed with water. The problem is that they sell these products as if they were based on aloe vera grown in the Canary Islands just because they mixed the extract with water in the islands. It is a fraud because it is NOT ALOE OF THE CANARY ISLANDS. Quality isthe use of fresh aloe vera with pulp. To make sure they use fresh aloe vera, look for this term the product label: ALOE VERA BARBADESIS LEAF JUICE.

"If this term does not appear, you must be suspicious. Since it usually appears as aloe vera barbadensis, aloe vera leaf extract, aloe vera Gel or Aloe vera leaf powder. These terms tend to confuse the consumer. "

Aloe vera leaf extract is the extract or powder of concentrated aloe vera and aloe vera gel, or concentrated aloe vera reconstituted with water. Then on the other hand the term aloe vera barbadensis, without specifying the form of production indicates a likelihood of powder or concentrate, since it is illegal not to put the form in which it is made or the format with which the product is made.

INCI of a pure 100% aloe vera gel on the market.

INGREDIENTS: WATER, ALCOHOL, DENAT, GLYCERIN, PEG-6, CAPRYL / CAPRIC, CARBOMER, ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF JUICE POWDER, BETAINE, PPG-26, BUTETH-26, PARFUM, PEG-40, HIDROGENATED CASTOR OIL, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, CHRLORPHENSIS, DISODIUM PHOSPHATE, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, TETRASODIUM GLUMATAMATE, DIACETATE, ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF EXTRACT, METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE, BISABOLOL, PHENOXETHANOL, ALLANTON, CI 19140, CHAMOMILLE, RECUTITA, FLOWER STRACT, POTASSION SORBATE, SODIUM BENZOATE, C42090

In this case the percentage of aloe vera does not reach 3 or 4% of aloe vera extract.

Another easy way to confuse the consumer of a pure gel from the Canary Islands.

INGREDIENTS: Aloe vera barbandensis gel, glycerin, carbomer, caprylyl glycol, sodium hydroxyde.

  1. 100% ALOE VERA DOES NOT EXIST

There is no 100% aloe vera since it is always necessary to add a percentage of preservatives to prevent its decomposition. Without these preservatives the decomposition of the product would take place within hours. A product cannot contain more than 99.7% aloe vera in the case of juice. In the case of products made from aloe extract, it is usually more than 80% water, which means that this product has very little aloe, also powder, which does not have the magnificent properties of aloe vera. If in the list of ingredients on the label the first thing that appears is water, this means that water is the element that appears in the highest percentage, and not aloe vera. The first ingredient of a quality aloe vera product should be JUICE OF ALOE VERA OR ALOE VERA LEAF JUICE.

  1. ECOLOGICAL AGRICULTURE

Organic farming means that our products are made without pesticides or chemicals. This is certified by the CRAE with the number 3118p, if you do not see the identification number it is suspicious. All our plantations when watering creates other plants such as weeds, and having the ecological plantation implies that we eradicate these types of plants by hand, or using Biological Herbicides that multiply by 10 the value of the chemicals.
