Not all products made with aloe vera have the same quality. It's a shame, but there is a lot of fraud around these products.
For this reason, we want to comment on a series of keys to identify a product of poor quality.
1. THE ORIGIN OF THE ALOE
Aloe vera grown in the Canary Islands is of high quality. This is the reason why the slogan or the phrase "aloe vera of the Canary Islands" is used as an argument for sale. But this is not always the case. Look at the label, because if it is legal and well prepared it must indicate where the product was made. If it does not, it is suspicious.
2. SOME PRODUCTS ARE PREPARED WITH FRESH ALOE VERA WITH PULP, while others are based on ALOE EXTRACT (aloe vera IN POWDER)
A product can be made from fresh aloe vera with pulp or based on aloe powder. The aggressive processes of dehydration, with high temperatures and pressure, to which the Aloe is subjected to turn it into powder destroy its properties. These powders usually come from China, India or Mexico. Once at the destination point, they are usually mixed with water. And the problem is that they sell these products as if they were based on aloe vera grown in the Canary Islands just because they mixed the extract with water in the islands. It is a fraud because it is NOT ALOE OF THE CANARY ISLANDS. In other words, quality is considered as fresh aloe vera made with pulp. To make sure that they use fresh aloe vera, look on the product label for this term: JUICE OF ALOE VERA OR LEAF JUICE. If this term does not appear, it is suspicious.
3. There is no ´ALOE VERA 100%´
There is no 100% aloe vera since it is always necessary to add a percentage of preservatives to avoid its decomposition. Without these preservatives, the decomposition of the product would take place within hours. A product cannot contain more than 99.7% aloe vera. It should be noted that products made from aloe extract, are usually more than 80% water, which means that this product has very little aloe, also powder, which does not have the magnificent properties of aloe vera. If in the list of ingredients on the label the first thing that appears is water, this means that water is the element that appears in the highest percentage, and not aloe. The first ingredient of a quality aloe vera product should be JUICE OF ALOE VERA OR LEAF JUICE.
4. ALOE VERA JUICES WITH A 7 DIGIT SANITARY RECORD
In the case of ALOE VERA JUICES, that is, ALOE VERA FOR DRINKING, the health record should always appear on the product label, consisting of 7 figures followed by the abbreviation of a province. This is a legal requirement. If the health record is 4 digits plus an acronym, it is a cosmetic product and not apt for consumption.
5. FRESH, ECOLOGICALLY farmed Aloe Vera
It is undeniable that ecology sells. An eco-friendly aloe vera guarantees that this aloe has not been cultivated with pesticides or other harmful components. All organic farming requires certification. In our case, we have an organic crop plantation in Fuerteventura which is of 100% ECOLOGICAL AGRICULTURE. We have more than 300,000 plants of ecological cultivation of aloe vera, certified by the Canarian Institute of Agricultural Food Quality.
The container
Another aspect to consider when identifying a quality product is the packaging. Active fresh Aloe is HIGHLY PHOTOSENSITIVE. Therefore, a TRANSPARENT CONTAINER means that there is NO FRESH ALOE since it would degrade in a few days. The pulp of Aloe Vera is translucent white and this coloration becomes yellow after processing. In short, an aloe vera product offered as a quality product must respect a series of legal parameters. Parameters that anyone can know by reading the labelling in detail.
An organic aloe vera product from the Canary Islands is not usually a cheap product. Organic farming in this region has costs that are reflected in the price of the product. The use of FRESH ALOE VERA WITH PULP also makes it more expensive. While the powder, brought from other places, is much cheaper. The price of a good package that respects and preserves the magnificent properties of aloe vera also affects the price. We advise you to keep these points in mind when buying an aloe vera product and know how to identify it by reading a label. If it is a quality product, all these parameters will be reflected in the labeling.
